Strategic Equality Objectives Consultation

Rights matter to us all, regardless of our age. Our rights protect and empower us, and should support us to challenge discrimination and poor practice.

But many older people find that their rights are not upheld as they grow older, and rights are often seen as being intangible, unreachable and irrelevant.

That’s why our public bodies have a crucial role to play in using rights proactively to ensure fairness, dignity, respect and autonomy, to drive meaningful improvements and deliver cultural shifts.

Using rights in this way, embedding a rights-based approach across our public services and using key legislation such as the Equality Act 2010 effectively, is essential to help make Wales the best place in the world to grow older.

To ensure that the action the Commissioner will deliver under her Strategic Equality Objectives for 2020-24 is effective as possible, she wants to hear the views of older people, and those working with and for them.
