Voice, Choice and Control: Recommendations relating to the provision of independent advocacy in Wales
A priority for the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales is to ensure that older people have a voice that is listened to and have choice and control over their lives.
In response to a range of issues raised by older people, the Commissioner has published her ‘Voice Choice and Control’ report, which aims to improve the provision of independent advocacy for older people when entering a care home, living in a care home and during care home closures. The report has been developed following extensive engagement with older people living in care homes and evidence gathered from local authorities, health boards and groups and organisations working with older people.
The Commissioner will initially consult with stakeholders on the recommendations in the report, before working with them to develop a range of good practice tools and support and publishing guidance for the provision of independent advocacy in April 2013.
