‘Dignified Care?’ Review Outcome: Return of the Matron

03.2.12

The Commissioner is very pleased that matrons will be returning to the wards of some hospitals in North Wales and welcomes the news that Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board will be the first Board to reintroduce this focal role that will surely bring reassurance to patients.

Ruth Marks stated: “As part of the recommendations from my ‘Dignified Care?’ Review last year into whether older people are treated with dignity and respect in hospitals, I highlighted the need for stronger ward leadership to foster a culture of dignity and respect.  We must remember that these are fundamental human rights which much be enshrined in the delivery of health and care services.”

The Commission looks forward to seeing the difference made by the matrons on the wards and the benefits felt by older people in the area.
