Ted’s Story

I recently applied for a clerk’s position in my local community council. As a retired chartered accountant, I knew I had the relevant experience and I was one of five candidates that were interviewed.

The applicant that scored highest during the interview declined the offer so I thought that as I was the candidate who scored second highest, the job would be offered to me. However, instead of offering me the job, it was re-advertised through a recruitment agency. The only reason I can think of for this is because of my age (I’m 71) as I have all the necessary experience and did well at the interview.

No applicants from the agency were successful and it was only then that they agreed that that the job would be offered to me. But I am worried that my job could be difficult because they clearly don’t want me here.
