Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) gives you the general right to access information held by the Older People’s Commission. It also requires us to have a Publication Scheme which is a means of providing access to the information which we routinely publish.
How To Make A Request For Information
Requests for information should:
- Be in writing (including email)
- Include your name and an address for correspondence (this may be an email address)
- Clearly describe the information requested

Be as specific as possible in your request about the information you want. For example, if you only want information within a range of dates, please say so. This is likely to help your request to be dealt with quickly. If we are not sure what you want, we will have to ask you for further explanation.
Specify the way in which you would like the information sent to you (e.g. as paper copy or email).
Before you make a request for information it may be helpful to consider whether the information that you want is already available through our publication scheme.
Some information may not be given to you because it is exempt, for example because it would unfairly reveal personal details about someone else.
The Commissioner for Older People (Wales) Act restricts the disclosure of information obtained by the Older People’s Commission in the discharge of its functions, or obtained from other commissioners or ombudsmen, other than in specified circumstances. Therefore individual information, enquiry and examination case files held by the Older People’s Commission are likely to be exempt from disclosure under the FOIA.
The FOIA is intended to make information available to the general public. In making your request you may like to consider whether the information you are seeking is suitable for general publication.
A fee may be charged for meeting requests. If a fee applies, you will be informed, and the requested information will be supplied when the fee is paid.

If your request is for environmental information, it will be dealt with under the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) which form a parallel access regime. You do not need to know whether the information you want is covered by the EIR. Requests for environmental information do not need to be made in writing, but for clarity we would advise you to do so.

What Happens After You Make A Request
We will provide you with a response within 20 working days from the date of receipt of your request.
