• Voice, Choice and Control

    18.9.12

    A priority for the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales is to ensure that older people have a voice that is listened to and have choice and control over their lives. In response to a range of issues raised by older people, the Commissioner has published her ‘Voice Choice and Control’ report, which aims to improve the provision of independent advocacy for older people when entering a care home, living in a care home and during care home closures.

  • Older People’s Commissioner announces Review into Advocacy Arrangements in Wales

    Ruth Marks has announced that she will use her legal powers to undertake a Review into advocacy arrangements for older people living in care homes in Wales. The Review will assess whether, and to what extent, current arrangements are effective in safeguarding and promoting the interests of older people in care homes and will gather evidence from a wide range of sources, including older people who live in care homes.

  • Advocacy Counts 3

    In October 2007 the first Advocacy Counts survey established a baseline from which future changes in the provision and availability of advocacy services in Wales could be measured. It found that only 23 organisations provided advocacy services for older people. In November 2008, Advocacy Counts 2 reported that the number had fallen to 19.
