I very strongly welcome the commitment by Welsh Government to a third phase of the Strategy for Older People. Since its implementation, the Strategy has been positively recognised within the UK and beyond as a serious and significant drive by Welsh Government to improve the long term position of older people in Wales. In a very real way it has done much over the last decade to increase the independence, voice and quality of life for older people in Wales.

However, we would like more clarification of the rationale for placing this in a compact. We would also welcome further clarity on the intended interaction of this proposed compact with the Public Health Bill.

The Welsh Language Commissioner has been seeking views on the Standards she plans to set for the promotion and use of the Welsh language.
We have responded, welcoming the Standards. We believe they will make a real difference for many older people in Wales. We have also asked the Welsh Language Commissioner to ensure that they are applied in a way that will not place a disproportionate financial burden on small organisations delivering services to older people.
